Writing Jobs for Beginners

If you are interested in a writing career, there are a few ways that you can break into the business and gain some experience.

Ghostwriting. Some people are not great writers, but they have ideas that they want to turn into a book or an article series. This is an opportunity to use your writing skills to bring in some cash. You will see someone else’s name on the finished product, but you will have money in your pocket.

Newspapers. You can apply to your local newspaper or your school newspaper. It is an easy way to get your name in print and practice your reporting skills.

Resume writing. This is certainly something that is in demand, particularly with the millions of people looking for jobs these days. Good formatting is easy to learn and if you do one well, you can do loads of them.

Ebooks. You can write your own ebooks about topics that you know well or a researched topic of interest. You can sell them online as a download. This is one way to establish yourself as an expert on a topic because people will think, “Wow, they wrote an entire book? They must know something.”

Web pages. One thing that websites will always need is words. You can provide them. You can start by creating your own website, and advertise your “web content writing services.” Once you produce a few quality pages of content that are actually used on individual and company websites, you can send new clients to those pages as examples of your work.
