Applying for a writing job

I was reading on today about applying to writing jobs. There are two basic tips offered in the article that to totally agree with.

1. Read and follow instructions/guidelines carefully. I wonder how many writers miss out on opportunities because they applied with an attachment (when the ad specifically says, “no attachments”) or simply because they miss a certain instruction in an ad.

2. Applying to jobs without the listed credentials/requirements. If you don’t have the experience, just don’t apply. You can only get away with applying to a project or position with little or no related experience if the ad specifically says: “No experience necessary,” or “Will train.”

The other points in the article are about making your application stand out and the need for your own writer’s website. I agree with those points as well. These ideas can put you ahead.
